The Russian Military Wants An Ammo Backpack That Is Straight Out Of 'Predator'

Task & Purpose: Russia Is Eyeing A Minigun Ammo Backpack Straight Out Of ‘Predator’

Images have been circulating on Twitter of a Russian Spetsnaz soldier apparently testing out a PKM heavy machine gun with an unusual ammunition-feeding backpack that bears an uncanny resemblance to Jesse Ventura’s alien-perforating minigun from Predator. The backpack, known as the Scorpio, is a product of Front Tactical Systems — and according to The Firearm Blog, it was designed at the request of the Russian military as a method of increasing machine gun efficiency.

The weight will be offset by exoskeleton mechanisation. 10 years tops. Before humans will be completely replaced in infantry units, which will be longer than some futurists want you to believe, this kind of force strengthening is prudent, cheap and efficient. The US army is ofc also looking into all of this. It's separate to Boston dynamics style force enhancing in which separate, mechanised units carry extra weight. Until they can fix the noise and in field-maintenance issues, this will however be off for quite a bit of time. And robots are still years off from being all-terrain. Human Soldiers can easily run in all terrains and cross mountains and rivers with ease. Until robots can do all this, and reliably, we need cheap mechanisation projects like exoskeletons for soldiers that carry this extra weight.
