The Guardian: US and Russian nuclear arsenals set to be unchecked for first time since 1972

Arms control experts have signed a statement warning international constraints will expire in 2021 unless a new nuclear deal is reached.

The US and Russian nuclear arsenals could soon be unconstrained by any binding arms control agreements for the first time since 1972, triggering an expensive and dangerous new arms race, a group of former officials and experts from the US, Europe and Russia has warned.

In a statement to be published on Wednesday, the signatories point out that the 2010 New Start treaty limiting the deployed strategic warheads and delivery systems of the US and Russia, will expire in February 2021, unless urgent steps are taken to extend it.

I think US can afford since noone cares how big debt they have anyway.

Trump is also famous for his borrowing of money for his enterprises. Warren Buffet has mentioned that in many articles from 91 and onward.

Usa can afford because all they do is print more fiat paper and no one questions the debt. Whos going to stop them ?

Actually people care quite a bit about how big the debt is. In fact it is my considered opinion that due in large part to the debt and the reckless use of sanctions the loss of the US dollar as world reserve currency is inevitable. At this point, I do not think it can be prevented.

Given this situation, the appropriate policies for US leadership to be undertaking is preparing for this and negotiating with the world's major powers on the transfer to try and ensure and orderly transfer and a "soft landing" for the US and our economy. In contrast, Russia has far less debt, sanctions cannot be imposed on them for an indefinite period of time, and the regulatory environment for business appears much better than it is in the US.

As such, it seems to me that Russia is in a much better position than the US is to actually afford a nuclear arms race than America is. American leadership has dug a very deep hole for us and themselves. The appropriate response to such a situation is to STOP DIGGING!!

There do seem to be a number of what appear to be crazy fools within the US establishment that actually seem to want and even crave war with Russia, China, or both of them, especially Russia. I have also noticed that the opposition to POTUS has become increasingly irrational and unhinged. If he really is trying to engage Russia or really did so, such a person would be a huge threat to these members of the establishment and it would become a top priority for them to destroy such a person by any means necessary. I'm just saying, perhaps I am completely wrong about all of this!!
