@WNU: With north Korea becoming a credible nuclear force in the short to midterm, what are the estimates when the North will try to take over the South? This decade already or will they wait for some more help and assurances from China?
North Korea can only take-over the South by invasion .... a conflict that will open a Pandoras Box that no one knows will be the end result. This blogger included.
Right. But the stated goal is reunification. And the common assumption is that Kim Jong Un will use his increasingly capable nuclear deterrent to keep the US in check. Basically assume 4-5mn North Korean soldiers walking towards Seoul, backed by nuclear weapons. When faced with this scenario, do you think the South will honestly nuke their brothers (and kill themselves in the process)? Likely they will stall. Very likely that China will tell the US to stay out of it and the 30,000US soldiers to stand down. Also very likely that some kind of distraction will be used to create confusion for a few hours - all it takes to get the invasion under progress. So my question is...when will we have to call Kim Jong Un the president of a unified Korea, under his rule and backed by China? It's gonna happen. .I'm just asking "when" :)
At this rate don't worry about north Korea's plans in a decade, the issue will be resolved one way or another by Xmas 17
