Has A Solution Been Found On Athletes Kneeling Down During The National Anthem?

CBS: Mike Tomlin explains why Steelers will stay in locker room during national anthem

The Steelers say they won't be affected by 'divisive times'.

If Sunday's early game in London between the Jaguars and Ravens is any indication, the rest of this week's action will include more player protests than we've previously seen -- all because President Trump said this at a rally on Friday night: "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now," the president said to a cheering crowd. "Out. He's fired. He's fired!"

In the hours since Trump's words, players, teams, team owners, the NFLPA, the league and former coaches and players-turned TV analysts have all criticized the president for his divisive remarks. But one team that won't take part in any pregame protests are the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Update: No players on the field for the national anthem at Seattle Seahawks-Tennessee Titans game (Los Angeles)

WNU Editor: It looks like saner heads are prevailing. Staying in the locker room during the national anthem will solve this controversy .... unless there are some teams that will say no and want to make a statement.

Civil War is not over.

This is a soon to be broken truce.

The War is spreading. It spread to the Baseball League.

I don't see how. End of day its still a protest, and the fact that a team of players may be missing during the national anthem may send a stronger message.

So the President of what is supposed to be the most powerful and richest nation is reduced to name calling and picking a fight with the NFL. I guess we can hope that those who voted for him can come out of their MAGA hysteria long enough to elect some grown-ups in a couple of years.

Great quote. Too bad TR never said that. He did talk about immigration though using something similar. Are you saying all the German speakers in the NFL should learn English?

And this has what to do with the players free speech. Trump is clearly upset by this, among many other things, so should he give up the money he's making from his business ventures?

NFL, you better keep your fans happy or look for another line of work...

They are working not only for the team but the fans in the stands...get it? Do what you want at your work place, but if you are hurting the bottom line don't expect to be around for long.

Ah no. They are working for the team owner(s). Since when do they work for the fans? Are they somehow stakeholders?...get it? You do realize the owners and the NFL are behind the players on this, right? Should they all be fired?

Anyway this is all a diversion from how Trump is doing this now instead of concentrating on what really matters. As always happens with him this blew up in his face. He simply doesn't have the intellectual wherewithal to think more than five seconds ahead at any one time. At this point I'd settle for what the GOP does best, create a financial crisis, if it keeps us out of another war. Its going to take years to unravel the furball this administration is creating.

I imagine there are a not a few black fans in the crowd and this protest is about racism. They are peacefully forcing an issue that affects a lot more people than just sports fans and accordingly are working for those people too. Wait until the fans start to join in the protests.

Sorry, I can't wait until hell freezes over. You obviously have not read the comments by sports fans in local news websites. They are 99% angry with the players. Democrats and Republicans alike are furious about these racist, spoiled, bigoted African-American millionares lecturing them about a non-existant epidemic of white-on-black violence that exists only in the fantasy world of BLM. They are furious about the disrepect to fans and to America. They are furious about the totally false and evil racial stereotypes about white Americans that so many black football players are spouting.

Go and check the national crime stats that show that whites are more than a dozen times more likely to be killed or raped by blacks than vice versa, that about 90% of blacks in the USA are killed by other blacks (and the rest are mostly killed by hispanics), and that blacks commit most of the murders in the US despite being a small minority of the population.

Then you will understand why sports fans are uniformly angry with these ignorant, narcisstic young black men lecturing white people about a white violence problem that doesn't exist, while ignoring a black violence epidemic that is ruining America's cities.

The fans are stake holders. you stumbled into the answer, bumbled over it, and went on without realizing you discarded the truth.

Player - Owner - Marketer - Vendor - Consumer/Fan

So yes, the fans are stake holders.

Because there 4 degrees of separation, the players do not understand that they can get hurt by their own stupidity. These are the same players that make college Hell with their harassment and sexual assault.

Here in ciudad en el río a black supremacist called Cedric called a local host.

Cedric said the Police were hassling him and were white supremacists, because they asked him for his car insurance. He does not have insurance.

The host and Cedric have history. So the host asked about how many baby mommas he has. Cedric said four.

The host asked Cedric who pays for the kids' food. Cedric does not and he say it is not important, who does. Cedric then went on to say this is why we need Barack Obama back.

IMO Bob Huntley you are as illogical as Cedric.

Last night 4 black women led police on a car chase. They were 19, 20, 24, & 25. One of them fired a shot through the roof of the car they were riding. The cops, who are no doubt white given demographics, did not fire. At the time they did not know that the shot was fired straight up. So we have these cops putting their lives on the line and ignorant and I mean really ignorant people call the cops & the majority of white people racists.

I think you have much to apologize.

Unknown said...

Bob Huntley,

It is bottom of the hour and the news is on.

Those women were shooting all night. On 3 occasion there reports of shots fired.

One of the women was observed getting into a car with a gun. Multiple shots were fired through the roof. There were multiple shots fired on at least two occasions. At least one policeman was hurt.

There are things to do. We have community colleges and they have programs for minorities.
They get special treatment in the community colleges in terms of financial and academic help. So why are they shooting up the town?

I wish we could transfer you. I know it is fantasy, but if we could.

You want to back that up with a cite? Or did that come out of thin air via Fox News?

Really? So the fans get dividends and take part in management decisions? Must be an interesting shareholders meeting. So you have no idea how businesses are run, OK.

So were you this upset when a bunch of mostly white guys caused the biggest economic meltdown since 1929? None of them went to prison for all the damage and losses that people had to endure. Sort of like Trump and four BKs and a history of not paying vendors.

"I think you have much to apologize."

For what? saying things you don't like to hear? I don't think so.

Have no idea what this is supposed to mean. Sorry, not interested in mythology, I like reality.

So now, how about answering the original question? Does calling people names and insulting their mother look Presidential? This is the kind of stuff that belongs on the playground with the ten year olds. I keep waiting for Trump to say I'm rubber and you're glue...

This stuff is more important than threatening to wipe out countries, hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico? Really?

I think that's it, this has been exhausted. I'm sure WNU Ed would just as soon see this thread die.

War News Updates Editor said...

Jason,
As a sports fan (I like hockey and soccer) I definitely do want this entire story to die.
But we both know that it will not die .... in fact .... it is probably going to heat up.
I do not live in the U.S. .... I am just an observer .... but this has been building up for a very long time, and all that I can say is that with what has happened in the past few days/weeks/two years .... the NFL's popularity will never grow from where it is today. It is all downhill now.

Unknown said...

WNU Ed,

Shall I just call you Ed? Or do you have a nom de guerre?

Just to be clear I was referring to the thread dying not the subject. It got so far off the tracks that it was becoming rediculous. No, this isn't going to go away we have a long history of racism. Richard Petty just came out with a textbook example of how not to manage a company today. NASCAR ratings and attendance are going down, what are we to make of that? I don't have as bleak an outlook on the NFL. Trumps support for this whole fiasco is about 40% according to a poll I heard this afternoon.

Enough of that for a moment. You seem like a very interesting person and I know we don't agree on many things but I enjoy your site and commentary nonetheless. Enjoy your take on the Russian outlook on things. I know a little bit about the Chinese and I think we agree more often than you may think on that. BTW I always feel a little guilty posting so late, you always seem to get right back with the commentary!

Cheers,
JJ

Hehehe .... I am a night owl.
And yes .... we agree more than disagree .... that is the human condition. Unfortunately .... the 5% that we disagree on is what usually creates a lot of anger and pain. Sighhh ....I guess that is life.

Jason,

You might want to check out.

Expanded Homicide Data Table 6

Anon was correct when he said 90%.

https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2013/crime-in-the-u.s.-2013/offenses-known-to-law-enforcement/expanded-homicide/expanded_homicide_data_table_6_murder_race_and_sex_of_vicitm_by_race_and_sex_of_offender_2013.xls

Unknown said...

Very good!
According to that table:

Black on black homicides is indeed 90%
White on white is 83%. Hmmm.

White on white female homicides are 59%
Black on black female homicides are 36%

So you are somewhat more likely to be killed by a black if you are black, white on white is not too far behind.
You are definitely more likely to be killed by a white if you are a white female. What do we make of that?

Anyway still waiting for answers to my original questions. Especially now that we know Puerto Rico is an island in this thing called the Atlantic.

Unknown said...

1st Anon was correct.

2nd Black are overrepresented (out-perform) in relation to murder and they wonder why people look at them sideways. You look at the unknown assailants and the stats probably make blacks look worse. Most people pick up on that category, but you did not. Are you afraid to go there?

I have personally seen two drug dealers in the last 2 years. They were black. You could not miss the one. It was mid afternoon in an area of strip malls. The other was in public housing. It was obvious. You just watch the watch the way the cars pull up. That and seeing a person standing in the street or in a parking lot not going anywhere, but just waiting for the next car.

My mother hates taking public transportation. She is of European extraction so taking public transportation is second nature. Except in America it is more dangerous. Where I live, blacks have ambushed the police. It is what they do, when they are not harassing the mail carriers.

You said you live in Canada. You do not have the demographic mix that we have and a grievance industry. It is like you are sitting in the nosebleed bleachers far above the field of play and you are quarterbacking. It is risible.

Unknown said...

Dude, why don't you calm down, get a grip and wipe the froth and spittle up. You still don't know who you are arguing with. I tried to clear that up last night but words and stuff. I never said where I was from. Hint: not Canada.

I did leave that piece of red meat out there and you did not disappoint. Did you notice that white women are twice as likely to be killed by whites as blacks. Or did you not want to go there. Oh that's right, just women. Look just say it, you don't like minorities. You just don't. You don't have to make up a bunch of reasons or share your anecdotes, thanks. There, doesn't that feel better?

Now that that's out of the way. Do you want to answer the original question without a bunch of deflections? Or would you rather just not embarrass yourself further?

Unknown said...

"Did you notice that white women are twice as likely to be killed by whites as blacks"

Which proves that blacks outperform. If everything was equal, only about 13% of white women would be murdered by blacks.

That is if the victims of white & black murderers reflected demographic makeup, then 13 percent of murdered white women would have been killed by blacks. Since it is much higher than that, it is proof of prejudice.

Unknown said...

Personal experience, witnessed or what you read, when it reflects the national statistics, you know you are right.

My most profound apologies. You are so right and correct and I am wrong. I don't know what happened but someone left a copy of The New York Times out and I guess I was temporarily brainwashed. Not to worry that drone has been summarily dismissed and we will strive to not let that happen again.

I also apologize for wasting your time explaining to me how my thinking is in error. I certainly hope I haven't offended you but sometimes learning from the master is difficult. I'm sure in your great wisdom you understand.

Also about Canada. I don't live there but I've spent a bit of time there. When I start saying "good morning" and "thank you" and "please, ehh" to strangers, I know it's time for me to get back to the always great U.S. of A. (MAGA, dammit). Usually it takes me about a month to reprogram and get surly with people, especially those who don't look or sound like me. Who let them in anyway?

In closing let me again offer a thousand apologies to you and the other ladies here on the WNU board.
